OUR HISTORY
In the Fall of 2006, a
group of concerned citizens gathered at Isothermal Community College to
discuss the plight of homeless dogs and cats in our area. In the
course of these discussions, it became clear that the most imperative
need was the construction of a new Animal Control facility.
Our existing shelter,
now more than 30 years old, is inadequate, in disrepair and does not
meet state code requirements. Because of the severely limited space,
most of the animals taken in are not allowed sufficient time to be
adopted or otherwise placed in loving homes.
In January 2007, a
committee was formed to address this vital issue. It is the goal of this
committee to bring into our area a new Community Pet Center.
A Pet Center is more
than an animal shelter. It is a Center for pet-related services and
activities, such as: Animal Control, 24-hour Emergency Support, Public
Education and Information on existing and future Programs, Animal Care
and Rehabilitation, as well as pet supplies.
ONE YEAR LATER... looking back,
it's been both wonderful and amazing to see the amount of community
support we've received over the past year. We can only thank you for
caring and for wanting to address the same issues that we do and to ask
you to continue to be supportive as we move forward in this process. We
have a Purpose... we're making Progress... and we have Plans... Be a
part of our Community Pet Center!
