About the program: There are relatively
few foster homes or rescue groups willing to take large numbers of cats
or kittens. Although our success at improving their survival rate has
been very modest, we have been successful in lowering the destruction
rate very slightly (1% - 5%). In addition to Animal Control adoptions
for cats, volunteers have re-homed approximately 50 animals through this
program. On a selective basis, from Animal Control or the public, we
receive cats or kittens or mothers with litters. The animals are vetted
and sterilized and private owners or caretakers are often asked to keep
them until homes came be found. Animals are photographed and posted on
Petfinder.com and the CPC website as well as featured in The
Rutherford Weekly. Routine adoption events are held for cats
throughout the Spring – Fall, and last year a total of 7 cat and kitten
adoption events were held at Tractor Supply Company.
